Mandarin began on December 8, 1979, when James Chiu, his brother George, Diana Chiu, and K.C. Chang bought a small Queen Street restaurant in Brampton. The lineups grew so long that in 1986 they converted to a buffet, and Ontario's biggest Chinese buffet chain was born. The Pioneer Tower East location is a single-storey building, steps from Shell. There's free parking in the lot, and the route 206 bus stops right outside. Inside it has a family-casual feel. It takes reservations, and the washroom is wheelchair accessible. Kids four and under eat free every day with an adult entrée. Service is quick and friendly. The food comes out fresh. It handles groups well.
