Mandarin began on December 8, 1979, when James Chiu, his brother George, Diana Chiu, and K.C. Chang bought a small Queen Street restaurant in Brampton. The lineups grew so long that in 1986 they converted to a buffet, and Ontario's biggest Chinese buffet chain was born. The Grantham location is a single-storey building. There's free parking in the lot. Inside it has a family-casual feel. Strollers fit easily, it takes reservations, and the washroom is wheelchair accessible. Kids four and under eat free every day with an adult entrée. Service is quick and friendly. Crayons come out for the kids. It does birthday parties.
