Mandarin began on December 8, 1979, when James Chiu, his brother George, Diana Chiu, and K.C. Chang bought a small Queen Street restaurant in Brampton. The lineups grew so long that in 1986 they converted to a buffet, and Ontario's biggest Chinese buffet chain was born. The Portobello South location has free parking in the lot, and buses on routes 31 and 234 stop right outside. Inside it has a themed feel. Strollers fit easily, it takes reservations, and the washroom is wheelchair accessible.
