East Side Mario's opened in 1987, inspired by the noise and abundance of Manhattan's Little Italy. The original logo was the Statue of Liberty holding a tomato, and the unlimited soup, salad, and garlic homeloaf has anchored the table ever since. The 505 streetcar stops right outside the Kensington-Chinatown location. Inside it has a family-casual feel. There are booths, and strollers fit easily. On Tuesday, kids ten and under eat free with an adult entrée. Service is quick and friendly.
