Astoria Shish Kebob House opened in 1972 in the heart of Toronto's Greektown on the Danforth, bringing family recipes to the city's growing Greek community. Five decades later the souvlaki is still the point. The Downtown Newmarket location is a single-storey building. There's free parking in the lot, and buses on routes 96 and 98 stop right outside. Inside it has a family-casual feel. Strollers fit easily, it takes reservations, and the washroom is wheelchair accessible. There's an open kitchen. On Sunday, kids twelve and under eat free with an adult entrée. The menu runs on fries, plus sandwiches, salads, and souvlaki. Service is quick and friendly.
