KidsEatFree.ca is typeset in KEFira, our house font -- built on Fira Code, a free, open-source extension of Fira Mono, originally released by Mozilla, with a batch of glyphs we drew ourselves, so our maps, buttons, and prose have exactly the marks they need and nothing they don't.
A small custom batch, each one monospace-width so it drops onto the grid like any other character -- which is how our maps stay aligned.
The arrows are one master rotated in eight equal steps -- a little compass that always points true:
Parks and water are drawn with our own shades -- one medium dot on a lattice, spaced tighter or looser for a denser or airier fill. The streets are Fira Code's box-drawing pieces:
Drop them on the grid and you get a map -- a shaded park, box-drawn streets, a north arrow, and the favourites star on the corner:
KidsEatFree.ca is typeset in KEFira at two weights: 400 (normal) and 500 (bold). Shown here on plain white and on the grey we use behind panels:
ON WHITE
Kids eat free. Plain text.

ON GREY

The site holds to those two, but KEFira is a variable font -- it can render at any weight along its axis, from 300, Light, to 700, Bold:
