Kids eat free at Boston Pizza every day.

Boston Pizza built its name as a family destination, and the floor plan says it plainly. The dining room is deliberately separated from the sports bar, so kids can be kids without the bar crowd. The kids menu runs mini pizzas, chicken fingers, pasta, and burgers in right-sized portions. High chairs, booster seats, and crayons are standard, and many locations run birthday party packages with dedicated hosts. Lionel the mascot, a holdover from the vintage 'Take Your Hungries to Boston Pizza' ads, still makes appearances.

The story starts in 1964, when Greek immigrant Gus Agioritis opened Boston Pizza and Spaghetti House in Edmonton, named for a city he dreamed of visiting someday. Most Canadians had never tasted pizza. A young RCMP officer named Jim Treliving lived down the street, became a regular, and in 1968 spent his savings and pension on a franchise of his own in Penticton, British Columbia. There he met accountant George Melville, his business partner from 1973 on, and a decade later the pair bought the entire 44-restaurant chain.

Every Boston Pizza runs two rooms under one roof. A family dining room where kids are welcome, and a sports bar packed with big screens and game-day noise. The menu goes well past pizza. Hand-stretched gourmet pies like the Boston Brute, pastas from classic spaghetti to loaded baked options, burgers, ribs, and the BP Wings and Cactus Cut Potatoes that built a cult following.
